The INRAE Le Pin research farm lies at the interface of research on cattle genetics and physiology and grass-based dairy systems. INRAE - “Le Pin” covers 330 ha, with 300 ha grasslands and 30 ha cropped for maize or mixed cereals silage. Its dairy and wintering facilities are adapted for 1000 cattle (including 250 Holstein, Normande and Jersey dairy cows). Animals experience a long residence time of rotational grazing from the end of March until the end of November. Herds are wintered in barns. The milking equipment consists of a robot for the “indoor” herd and a parallel milking parlor for the other cows. The RI belongs to the National Infrastructure Livestock Phenotyping for Sustainable Agricultural Systems (LiPh@SAS) (https://www6.inrae.fr/liph4sas_eng/).
