The FIP is situated 15 km away from Zürich. It allows monitoring the development of crops on an area of 1 ha in the field, using multiple camera systems and sensors such as a 3D laser scanner, hyperspectral snapshot camera, thermal camera and other instruments (see Kirchgessner et al. 2017 https://doi.org/10.1071/FP16165 for a detailed description). The sensors are placed on a custom-made sensor head, which is positioned by a custom-made installation that consists of four 24 m high masts that carry a rope-camera-system.
