The CIRM-BIA collectin is a Biological ressources center dedicated to Food Related Bacteria. Collection hoste more than 4,000 strains of bacteria related to fermented foods and bio-preservation which are as diverse as possible (160 species, 30 genera). These numbers are growing constantly through targeted collection from various biotopes. The strains are selected in order to offer the greatest possible diversity, from both the taxonomic and functional points of view, so as to ensure their usefulness to the scientific and industrial communities. The research activity at CIRM-BIA focus on the characterization and understanding of inter- and intra-specific diversity, and its importance for innovation. The BRC also offers a range of services linked to preservation, identification and the characterisation of bacterial strains, characterisation of food ecosystems and high thoughput screening for specific biological activities
