The Digital Imaging Multimodal Platform of NEUROMED IRCCS aims at providing an integrated digital analysis support for PET, CT, and MRI applications. Functional plant imaging is one of the leading focuses of the department of medical physics and engineering in their development of Positron Emission Tomography, Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance imaging of sprouts, with the aim of determining the effects of environmental stress conditions on structural and functional processes. Dedicated experimental approaches have been developed for the study of wheat, maize, and sunflower, as well as for the CT of unperturbated soil samples. A unique point of the DIMP facility is the availability of the first high resolution transportable digital plant PET system, fully automatized, which will make it possible to acquire functional plant images in controlled environmental and experimental conditions suitable to plants.
